This zipper pen pouch with an elastic band that will fit snug against hardcover books. Pouches are made from upcycled fabric remnants and secondhand/ estate sale zippers and elastic. 

Please note that these likely won't work on paperback books, as a paperback cover isn't sturdy enough under the elastic and will bend.
